John Silvester

The guy who had the original crack pot idea of building a fighting robot and who was in overall charge of the design. He is a Science teacher but only does supply teaching now. He has made robots before. He made a fire fighting robot as a project for his post graduate certificate of Education and the Science Club he organised during his first teaching year made a national prize winning machine which followed a white line. A recent project was a computer controlled three axis drilling machine.

John Silvester and Andrew Stephens were working on producing a robot to enter Robot Wars when Arthur walked into the workshop. The two quickly discovered they had met a kindred spirit and the team became three. Producing a robot can be a frustrating process and John and Andrew discovered that Arthur had an ability to see all problems and setbacks as blessings in disguise, an attribute that saved the project on more than one occasion.

He became the most enthusiastic contributor to our team. Nothing was impossible for this guy. He was the fastest machinist in the county.

His many hobbies included diving and skiing. You could not tell that he did not have any legs - except that he sometimes wore shorts!

Arthur had lost both legs as a result of a car accident (No it was not because of he was driving at his usual 90 plus mph) but was in fact stationary on the hard shoulder standing at the rear of his car when a following vehicle, driven illegally, at speed, along the hard shoulder, pinned his legs between the two vehicles.

You could not ignore this chap - he was a natural entertainer. He had driven himself to hospital for a routine heart check-up expecting to drive home shortly after. The angiogram showed up a serious problem and the hospital operated straight away but the operation went wrong and Arthur passed away in July 2002. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.

The Team - Andy Stevens

The neatest welder in the county. He will not do anything unless he had drawn it on the computer and treble checked the dimensions. He is a natural kerb to our enthusiasm and will not carry out any of our ideas unless he was certain that it would work.

Our drivers. The James' are good friends and have done well in their Science SATS exams. One got 100 percent in one of his exams. Does not an interest in robots engender an interest in Science, Technology and Mathematics?

Your humble webmaster :o) trying to keep the site up to date, informative with regular updates from John and SIMPLE so I can maintain it.

Shown here with my laptop which has let me down a few times when trying to acquire and post pictures to the site - perhaps I should let Joker (in the background) have a play around with it to knock it into shape :o)
